On Education and Formation

‘The most important aim of every hue of education is to promote ones social and spiritual growth, which shall assist a student to become a true and mature personality who can make valuable contributions to society and the world at large. Every genuine education process encompasses information and transformation’. This is one of the caption sentences I found in the article “Education: a process of transformation and formation’. This article on the process of education in the time of admissions and allotments is very good for teachers, parents and the students. Now education, as the article indicates works as a medium for a job. So everyone is running to obtain a degree and a certificate of qualification. The aspect of formation in education process is neglected and formation of human, moral, and social values are unkempt. So this article helps to re think on this issue. I do remember the days in which we studied 40 years back. The teachers were very keen to give formation along with the information. Motivations were value based than utilitarian. There was a kind of accompaniment by the teachers giving care and attention to get rid of the negative formation and personality defects. Education was a joint venture of both parents and teachers. The success of a student was also an esteem for the teachers with the students and parents. The completions were healthy competitions than inimical. The words of Guru Nithyachythannya Yathi mentioned in the article ‘dear teachers, please realize that the students (both girls and boys) before you are like your own children; then begin to teach them’ is very apt in a situation of today. Now a days the number of the students are interested only for the sake of division maintenance. Any how the article on education is very relevant to the present time.
