Catholic sisters in India are continuing their mission of supporting children living with HIV by providing education, healthcare, emotional care, and opportunities to become active members of society. Their work has helped many children overcome stigma and build hopeful futures despite the challenges they face.
The sisters operate homes and care centres where children receive nutritious food, medical treatment, counselling, and quality education. Along with meeting their physical needs, they also help children develop confidence and self-esteem. Many children who once experienced rejection because of their HIV status are now studying successfully and participating in community life.
A major focus of the programme is social reintegration. The sisters work closely with schools, families, healthcare workers, and local communities to reduce discrimination and encourage acceptance. They believe every child deserves equal opportunities, regardless of health condition or background.
In addition to caring for children, the sisters also educate parents and communities about HIV. They organise awareness programmes to remove misconceptions and promote compassion toward those living with the disease. Their efforts have helped create more supportive environments where children can grow without fear or prejudice. Church leaders have praised the dedication of the sisters, saying their service reflects Christ’s compassion for the vulnerable. Many former beneficiaries have gone on to complete their education, find employment, and live independent lives. The programme continues to demonstrate that love, acceptance, and proper care can transform lives and help children living with HIV become confident, respected members of society.
