- 2001 and 2007: Elected as the leader of the Augustinian Order. He became the head of the Augustinian Church worldwide.

- 30, January 2023: Arrived in Rome to become the head of the Vatican’s Dicastery for Bishops.
- 30, September 2023: Made a Cardinal, becoming one of those eligible to elect the pope.
