QUESTION: How do you see the war in Ukraine?
ANSWER: We are praying, and so is the Pope praying and incessantly asking people to pray for peace. There is no ready-made solution for the war. The only way to find a solution is through talks and reconciliation, which is in itself a very complicated process. People are being killed for no reason at all. That is the tragedy of it. They are supposed to be Christians and cultured people, and yet, they cannot live together in peace. Power is the dominant element here. Suspicion of the other is the root cause of this crisis. Orthodoxy may be its underpinning. Europe has learned little from two world wars, communism and Nazism. They show a very indifferent attitude towards human life. Feeling for the other is some how dwindling in Europe. People who have been Christians for centuries have not learned the real point of Christianity. Then you also have the psychological flaws of the leaders.
