QUESTION:
What was the topic and objective of the KRLCC (Kerala Regional Latin Catholic Council) which was conducted in Kannur recently?
ANSWER: Bp. Alex Joseph Vadakkumthala, Kannur
The main topic of the meeting was Synodality in the Latin Church of Kerala – how Synodality can be applied in Kerala. Primarily, the discussion was centred on the premise that he Church today is a participatory Church, with collaboration at every level and the responsibility falling upon everyone. Secondly, the Church to-day should be “a listening Church”, where we listen to one another. Even a little child will have something to say, which we need to listen, and more so to the youth, because they have their own dreams and aspirations about the future. The logo of the synod was a symbolic representation of how the Church has to be with the people and walk together with them. And also, the marginalised people have a significant role to play. One of the main aspects the Synod dis-cussed was how to conduct the finance council in every parish and at the diocesan level; in this the lay people should have a greater role. That will help to reduce the trend of clericalism in many areas of the church.
