Q: We are now faced with the big question of climate change all over the world. Has the time come for declaring a climate emergency to address it, in India including?
A: “Yes we need it. Betterment of the ecological situation of the world is now a must. Since the governments is not doing enough, NGOs also should join the effort. The government is too slow. Not all countries are to be blamed for this situation. Of course, the big industrial countries are to be blamed most. India may not have contributed to climate change much, but then, the industrially and technologically advanced Europe, United States and some other countries have contributed hugelyto polluting and spoiling the environment. They should understand the seriousness of the situation and should plant more trees and follow the green protocol. We have to be climate-aware. Environmental protection should become a way of life for us. We should economize the use of things and reuse them, shunning the throw away culture. In many ways each one is responsible for the earth and its climate. If only concern for the future gets into our minds willwe consider it our moral duty to protect our home the earth.”
