Q: How do you see the new Citizen’s Bill passed by our Parliament?
A: “I see a mixed plate. Is such a bill really needed? I have seen countries that welcome persecuted people and refugees without passing a bill, much less a bill that unnecessarily eliminates a certain section of people. The bill has created a controversy on that account. The government could easily accept people who they felt were refugees or were persecuted in their own countries. Pope Francis is very clearly asking to accept refugees. It is our duty to help people who are persecuted and are in trouble. The Pope is urging many countries and many governments to show love and concern for the people who are suffering. This is what is attempted here also, but why was there the need to pass a bill that is causing agitations in different parts of the country? Already three people seem to have died in Assam. Why create a division? There are creating new and special bills that cause division.”
