Q: The Amazon Synod has suggested an Amazonian rite; your response?
A: “It may be good, because every rite has got cultural significance suited to a particular situation. Every place can have a way of worship, which is close to the people, expresses their culture and helps them live according to it. Of course, it is also true of the Indian rite. We had already started long ago, but it was not followed up and so was discontinued. I remember Cardinal Parecattil’s Indian Mass; it had a twelve-point formula, which was approved experimentally, but was not followed up. ”
