Q: The parliament has passed a bill providing 10% reservation to economically weaker section of forward castes. What do you think of it? Do you see it as a political decision?
A: I think all those who are deprived need support from every side, but in India we are more interested in politicizing the issue than in helping the needy. Those who are marginalized and are in difficulties need government support. In principle I personally think, without depriving the needy sections of what they deserve, we need to attend to all deserving people. By helping some of the so-called poor of the upper class, the weaker sections are not in any way deprived of justice. Helping the socalled privileged one should not in any way affect the weaker sections of backward class people.
