QUESTION: In the just concluded elections in the northern states of India, the BJP has won convincingly. What is your view on it and on the Ukraine war?
ANSWER: So sad! We had great hopes about the elections, but in UP they got two-thirds majority. If the BJP returns to power in 2024, they may even change the constitution. That is my big worry. How I wish the secular parties came together and did something to forestall it. In the given situation, they need to share a common concern.
The war in Ukraine has surely brought great suffering to innocent civilians. Let us hope the talks that are going on to end the war bear fruit soon. Otherwise, we may end up with a third world war. NATO and Putin have here a crucial role to play. After all, it’s a huge aspiration for Russia to become a super-power that controls other nations.
