Can a normal person speak to the dead person? But Miguel a twelve-year-old boy could does all these. How could he be such a lucky guy? It’s nothing but his passion for music and his love for his family. The movie Coco is about the mysterious journey of a passionate kid.
Miguel who comes from a shoe- makers family wants to become a musician.The whole family was against music and music-related things. Why it is so? Because he knew his great-grandfather was a musician. Once the great grant father went home but never returned. The family did not take it well this so removed all his photos from the family. On “the day of the dead” the whole country believes their ancestors will visit them. The only condition is that they should keep their photo and memorable things in that house. Miguel’s family has all the photos of their family members but of the great-grandfather. His name even was erased. Miguel cannot stop his passion for music, that is why he kept a guitar and music notes in a secret room in the attic. He also keeps his favourite musician Ernesto de la Cruz’s photos and music albums.
Through the “Day of the dead” celebrations little Miguel was attracted to the music event in memory of Ernesto the great Musician in which young talents have an opportunity for presenting their music. Despite the interdict of his family he planned to attend that function. But he lost his guitar destroyed by mother. But in the disappointment Miguel gets a piece of on his great information on his great-grandfather who is Ernesto de la Cruz. The only possible way to attend the music eve is having a guitar. He has no other way despite stealing a guitar from the museum. But It was the guitar of great Ernesto his great grandfather. As he touches the strings, he could watch all the dead persons visiting the land. As he passes the bridge between the living world and the dead, he found many of his ancestors except his great grandfather.
He wanted, by all means to get his blessing to become a musician like him. But it was impossible because he is living in a VIP apartment there. To get to him, he gets the help of a poor man Hector who is disappears slowly from the dead land because nobody remembers him on earth and carrying any photo of him. Soon Miguel accepted to pass his photo to the living world on condition to find Ernesto. That journey to the land of dead Miguel and Hector became good friends.
To get an entry for the meeting with Ernesto, Miguelpresented musical talent first time in public there. He felt like in a dream where he could reach Ernesto and who proudly accepted the talent of his great grandson. But soon he realises his hero Ernesto got his popularity by cheating his old friend Hector by stealing his music notes and guitar. And the poor Hector was killed by Ernesto. At that moment Miguel recognise that the person whom he is searching for is Hector, his real great grandfather who was travelling with him through the journey. The whole family understands his innocence and dignity by the intercession of Miguel. To give him a lasting life in the world of the dead Miguel return to the world with his photo. There sitting the poor old grandmother Coco was waiting the whole life for his papa’s return. When Coco seeing his photo and listening to the song “remember me” sung by Miguel, Hector gets a lasting life and deserving recognition.
When Miguel completed his journey from the land of the dead, he recognises that journey is not a journey to another land, but a journey within him and his love for the family.
Every journey is to oneself; the destination is realisation what we are. What we are searching outside is always within us. The visual experience of Coco, the Mexican animated movie, inviting us to return to ourselves. The story of the dead is a message to the living.
