QUESTION: Christianity and Christian institutions like convents and schools are being attacked continuously in India. Do you think that the BJP is accelerating its antipathy towards Christians? Where are they heading to?
ANSWER: Very much. The constitutional values of freedom, equality and secularism are being swept away gradually. The extreme right-wing is trying to create a Hindu Rashtra. Even in the case of the farmers’ issue, it took one year for them to seriously consider it. The media hardly covered the farmers’ agitation. The BJP is trying to impose their ideology over the constitutional values that we have upheld through many decades. Their model is Fascism and Nazism which held sway over Europe for a time during the twentieth century. The majority of Hindus are not fanatics. They stand for democracy, equality and brotherhood. Only a few extremists are doing this. We are in a dark period of our nation’s history now. Many a nation was in-spired by our countries democratic values and non-violent policies, but, sadly, that is not the case anymore.
