READING : [Exodus 34:4-10]
So Moses chiseled out two stone tablets like the first ones and went up Mount Sinai early in the morning, as the Lord had commanded him; and he carried the two stone tablets in his hands. Then the Lord came down in the cloud and stood there with him and proclaimed his name, the Lord. And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “the Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.” Moses bowed to the ground at once and worshiped. Lord, he said, “if I have found favor in your eyes, then let the Lord go with us. Although this is a stiff-necked people, forgive our wickedness and our sin, and take us as your inheritance. Then the Lord said: I am making a covenant with you. Before all your people I will do wonders never before done in any nation in all the world. The people you live among will see how awesome is the work that I, the Lord, will do for you (Exodus 34:4-10).
REFLECTION: The passage Exodus 34:4-10 recounts a significant moment when Moses ascended Mount Sinai to receive a new set of stone tablets containing the Ten Commandments. Here in this passage some important aspects of God’s character is depicted. God describes Himself as compassionate, gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness. This depiction emphasizes God’s mercy and love for His people.
Throughout the biblical narrative, God’s love and mercy towards the people of Israel shine brightly, even in the face of their repeated unfaithfulness. Despite Israel’s shortcomings, including the grievous act of fashioning a golden calf and turning to idol worship, God’s mercy remains immeasurable. His enduring love for Israel surpasses their moments of rebellion and disobedience. The divine compassion demonstrated by God reflects a profound commitment to His chosen people. It’s a love that transcends human understanding, a mercy that persists despite the waywardness of Israel. Time and again, God forgives, guides, and restores, underscoring the depth of His boundless love for a nation that, despite its flaws, remains the object of His enduring affection and covenant promises. God’s love for Israel becomes a testament to the inexhaustible nature of divine mercy and the unwavering commitment to those He has set apart.
PRAYER: Lord, through the highs and lows of life journey, your immeasurable mercy becomes a testament to a love that endures beyond our frailty, a love that seeks restoration and reconciliation of your people. We humbly ask for the gift of a grateful heart, one that recognizes and appreciates the depth of your love and kindness. Lord, nurture us in humility, helping us to see ourselves through your eyes and to approach each day with a spirit of meekness. Teach us, O God, to depend entirely on your compassion, knowing that in our weaknesses, your strength is made perfect. May we be vessels of your love, spreading its warmth to those around us and witnessing to the transformative power of your grace. Guide our steps, Lord, so that our lives may reflect the beauty of your character and the depth of your love.

Dive into this boundless love, allowing it to envelop you in its warmth and guidance. Let the depth of this divine affection be enough and more, satisfying the yearnings of your heart. Like a gentle flame spreading its glow, let the love you have experienced within become a beacon for others, drawing them towards the profound divine love. Within the sanctuary of your soul, find peace and tranquility. Express gratitude to God for this unwavering love and guidance, recognizing the countless blessings that grace your journey. In this quiet space, commune with the divine presence that surrounds you, grounding yourself in the sacred essence of God’s compassionate and enduring love.
ACTION: I will not turn away from God’s unfailing love by succumbing to the stubbornness of my heart.
