The previous Congress led state administration’s stance before the Supreme Court was in consonance with this majority view. It is true that some party stalwarts initially welcomed the judgement of allowing women’s entry. But the party’s chief ,Rahul Gandhi despite expressing his opinion regarding gender equality in Sabarimala, left it to the party’s Kerala unit as to the way forward. Now as the result of the survey by a prominent TV channel shows, Congress is going to be the winner of this situation, since even many of the supporters of BJP’ s virulent campaign against women’s entry, are likely to vote for Congress in the upcoming Lok Sabha election, as BJP does not have a chance to muster enough votes to win except (that too perhaps) in one constituency.
