QUESTION: You would have come to know of a case of Human sacrifice in Kerala in which three persons allegedly sacrificed two women and even ate their flesh. What is your reaction to it?
ANSWER: The news of that incident is very shocking. It has a devastating effect on the trust we place in humanity. It is so inhuman! These are the kind of things promoted by certain vested interests who are steeped in superstition and have little scientific temper. For their personal gain, they have no qualms of conscience about denying someone else his or her right to live. Christian teaching is not to kill anybody. Christ went a step further and taught us that he had come to lay down his life as ransom for many, a supreme sacrifice for a common good. We can also give our life as ransom for others if needed. In self-defence or the defence of one’s family or country, killing is justifiable, but taking away someone’s life for personal gain is unacceptable.
