The Modi Dispensation

Light of Truth

P.A.Chacko

How do we understand the Indian scenario unfolding under the Modi dispensation? It is three years since Narendra Damodar Modi hop-stepped into the national scene to get enthroned as the Prime Minister of India. He is Sang Parivar’s number one man to steer the nation into the nationalist ‘Akhand Bharat.’

A man with a gift of the gab, Modi has bulldozed into every Indian’s living space with slogans and manufactured promises to lull you into believing that he is the magic man to lead India into the heights of prosperity and glory.

But, wait, what has he delivered in three years? The nation saw him priding himself as the humble chaiwala who became a self-made man of a Prime Minister of the Indian nation. Hence, he donned with greater pride rupees ten lakh worth overcoat to prove that even a chaiwala can wrap himself in silver and gold.

Along with that pride came his and his Parivar’s prejudice against those who do not profess their kind of Hindu faith. That was where the Sangh Parivar’s shadow army came out on the street as religious Talibans to terrorise the Muslims, the Christians, and the dalits. Religious fundamentalism demonstrated by those street smart kids had all the blessings of the Sangh Parivar. These freemasons cared little for the sacred constitutional principles of freedom of conscience in professing and practising one’s belief. Hence, they and their hired mercenaries began to burn churches and worshipping shrines, humiliate and parade pastors and church personnel. They unleashed violence against Muslims for flimsy reasons and unfounded rumours. Mohammed Aklaq paid with his life for having mutton at home because the vigilantes suspected that it was beef. They selectively hunted out people of minority communities and beat them to pulp or hanged them or lynched them in public gaze with immunity.

With Modi’s blessings a horde of sadhus and sadvins roared from their sacred precincts spitting venomous hate speeches against minority communities. That was their freedom of speech while they silenced, in the most alarming manner, those who differed with them. They threatened to ‘execute’ those who do not sing ‘Vandemataram.’ They dictated terms and conditions of citizenship different from what are stipulated in the constitution. People of minority communities are second class citizens. The Muslims who do not toe the Parivar line should pack and get lost in Pakistan.
The status of the cow is solemnised with an aadhar number. In the name of gau raksha, protection of the cow, Modi introduced the law banning beef and slaughtering of cows, bulls or buffaloes. That is the beginning. Tomorrow the nation may be told that Gau Mata has to be worshiped as the Mother Devata of the nation along with the Gita as the national book.

In honour of the cow Modi has declared war on people’s right to choice of food. His shadow army can go into your kitchen and throw you out along with your pots and pans. Because they suspect that you are non-veg. In the name of protecting the Hindu girls who want to go for inter-cultural marriage, the Parivar’s war against love jihad has sent shivers down the spine of the nation. Anti-love jihad squads trawl and attack men and women going together, be they father and daughter, brother and sister or husband and wife.

Non-Hindus are told that it is the Hindu DNA they carry and, hence, they should retrace their steps to the Hindu fold or face consequences. Ghar wapsi and dharam parivartan are performed as street theatricals to prove this point.

In the name of bringing out all the black money the Indian populace was made to march out to public streets as if they are all culprits and criminals. While the likes of Ambanis and Adanis cooled their heels in their air conditioned homes and villas, the common man had to sweat it out in the sweltering heat. Some of them fell dead on the road. Not even crocodile tears came from the powers that are. The government justified the whole tragicomedy as a sacrifice for the nation as the jawans do on the border. The real thieves and hoarders of black money are having the last laugh.

Indo-Pak relations nose dived in Modi’s rule because Pakistan is considered an enemy nation. Hence, the border skirmishes of the UPA regime have been replaced with a low level war in the Jammu Kashmir region threatening to escalate into a full-scale war.

Attempts to rewrite the Constitution are on. The eternal principles of truth, justice, equality, freedom of consignee, etc. are an anathema to the Sangh Parivar. Hence, the Modi regime will pulverise the Constitution and hoist the saffron flag instead of the tricolour.

The education sector is getting saffronized. Text books are remoulded with contents of Hindu mythology. Men and women handling education are hand-picked devotees of the Sang Parivar. Minority educational intuitions are under the hammer and they are told to fold up or follow new rules and regulations fitting the Parivar ideology and values.

The Indian Media has been hammered into a shapeless mass of pulp communication. The entertainment sector has been sanitized so that only the Parivar approved presentations will be displayed. There is the Big Brother looking down on all and sundry.

Indian small scale industries are downing their shutters. Chaiwallas’ stalls have been upgraded to FDI supermarkets. Kentucky chicken takes the pride of honour in place of the humble beef. Chinese, Japanese, Korean and even Vietnamese made items, ranging from potato fry to electronic goods, are having a field day in our neighbourhoods. That is where Indian nationalist pride shows its humility and yields enough wrestling space even in our bed rooms.

What are we up to? Where is our nation moving to? In the final analysis the scenario is depressing. The land of Ahimsa is becoming the Mahabharata of himsa. Rational thinking and scientific temper are stifled and smothered in order to give ample space to mythology and illogical thinking. Religious fanaticism and fundamentalism are dictating terms to people concerning their food and cultural habits. Nazi style culture police has taken over our law and order administration. Venom-spitting hate speeches are dinned into our ears terrorising us as if we are all criminals and crooks. Freedom of the press has been bartered for pittance and crumbs from the ruling dispensation. The Indian constitution is getting derecognised while Gita takes the pride of place as the ‘National Book.’ Food Security Act is put in place to demonstrate the benevolence of the ‘Eminent domain’ while people’s right to choice of food is banned. Parliamentary democracy is given a backseat while autocracy is in the driving seat. The contribution and sacrifice of the Father of the nation is held in question while Gandhi’s murderer Nathuram Godse’s memorial is getting erected. The Indian opposition is in disarray as if conniving with the so-called nationalist ‘sentiments’. And, finally, our integrated India is slowly and steadily getting disintegrated into Hindu nationalist ‘Akhand Bharat.’
